Clashes Between Indigenous Communities Leaves Six Dead in Colombia
Authorities said more than 100 people were also injured during the clashes, which erupted Thursday in a rural area of Silvia in the Cauca department amid a territorial dispute.
Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez said army troops had been deployed to the area to restore security and prevent further violence.
"Our soldiers will accompany the population and protect it," he said, describing the confrontation as "absurd."
Officials also said President Gustavo Petro has scheduled a meeting on Monday at the presidential palace with leaders from both communities in an effort to reach a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
